Eddie Wells Fortney succumed to a sudden heart attack, Wednesday evening, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Benson. on South Barry Street. His death came as a distinct shock to his family and friends, as he had been in his usual health until his death which was instantaneous.

No arrangements for the funeral have yet been made, pending the arrival here Friday of an only son, Alton Fortney, of Boscobel, Wisconsin, but Mrs. Benson announces that the services will be held here and the body will be taken to Carlyle, Montana for internment.

Mr. Fortney, accompanied by his wife, came to Glendive a short time ago from their home in Wisconsin and had planned to spend the winter here visiting at the home of their daughter.

The deceased was born in Wisconsin in July 3, 1886, and was 64 years old at the time of death.  He first came to Montana with his family, in 1910 and homesteaded near Carlyle, Fallon county, where they livd until a few years ago. The body is being cared for at the Westrum mortuary.

Sudden Death of E. W. Fortney

Eddie Wills Fortney died of a sudden heart attack last Wednesday evening while visiting at the home of H. E. Harleman on South Barry Street. Funeral services were held last Sunday morning at ten o’clocl at Westrum Bros. funeral parlors, Elder B. m. Grandy of Billings officiating. The deceased was buried at Carlyle Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Fortney was born July 3, 1866 near Barnum, Wisconsin. With his wife he came to Montana in 1910 and homesteaded near Carlyle for eighteen years, when they returned to Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Fortney came back to Glendive this fall and had planned to spend the winter with their daughter, Mrs. Benson.

The deceased is survived by his wife, his daughter, Mrs. H. W. Benson of Glendive, a son, Alton, of Boscobel, Wisconsin, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Ruddy of Boscobel, Wisconsin.
